Dissolving Fear

Many people I’ve talked to lately are filled with fear.  Fear about our divided country struggling with politics, an economic crisis, violence, social and racial injustices, the war in Ukraine and COVID.  It is a lot to deal with. But one thing is certain: We have to learn to live together in love, peace and harmony.

I truly believe that we are on the verge of a new era of enlightenment – and its arrival will be in the not-too-distant future. For now, we all have to remember that we have the opportunity to choose love over fear. Love for ourselves and others.

But how do we combat our fears? One way is to remember that the sun is always shining–even though the clouds may obscure it for a while. Here’s a short writing from Louise Hay about fear that can help:

“As the fears come, I choose to see them as passing clouds in the sky, and I let them go on their way. I am not my fears…I know that what we do in our hearts is very important, so I begin every day in a silent connection with my heart. When I feel afraid, I let the love dissolve the fear.”

If you are having issues with fear, confidence or stress please reach out to me. I give free consultations and offering in-person, Zoom and phone coaching and hypnotherapy sessions on a sliding scale to meet your financial needs.

Getting Unstuck

Fall is here – and it’s a time for moving forward.  But how can you move forward if you are feeling stuck? You may be stuck in a bad relationship, stuck in an unfulfilling job, stuck in bad health or pain – or stuck in a negative frame of mind.

What really keeps us from getting unstuck are the limited beliefs we may have and held on to for years. Do you ever hear yourself say any of the following: This is how I was raised, and that’s how I am … I’ll never be happy … I’ll never have enough money … There are no jobs out there for me… I’m too old to change… This kind of critical thinking is all just a mindset. Change is possible and it can be yours if you are open to it.

Like most people, I’ve been stuck many times in my life.  In a difficult marriage, in an unfulfilling public relations business, and stuck in bed with three hairline fractures of my pelvis after a bad fall.

But one experience that really stands out is when I turned 66 and was dreading my next birthday because I was sure the end was near for me. Fortunately, I went to my naturopath for a routine visit and told her I felt that I would die when I turn 67. After all, my mother died of cancer at 67 and my father died of a heart attack at age 61. And I felt that I would be next to go.  My naturopath sat back slowly in her chair and looked at me sternly and said: “You need to rewrite your script!”

Somehow her words resonated with me at that moment. So, when I returned home I actually rewrote my script, my life story. I wrote that I would live to be 100 years old. And If I was going to live for 33 more years, I wanted to spend my time working at something more meaningful that had purpose, and was heart felt where I could help others.   So, I decided to leave public relations and become a certified life coach and certified clinical hypnotherapist.  That change of attitude transformed my life, and that’s how I became unstuck.

Changing your body language.

Being stuck can paralyze you emotionally and physically. The quickest way to move forward is to change your stuck state by changing your body language.  If you are stuck and in a state of negativity – how does your body look?  How does it feel?

  1. Are your shoulders and arms slumped?
  2. Is your breathing shallow?
  3. Are you speaking in a low voice?
  4. When you are in a happy and powerful state, arms and shoulders are back, you speak louder and are self-assured.

A quick exercise:  Stand in your power.

To get unstuck quickly you need to change your body language and stand in your power.  Stand up like the wonder that you are!   Hands on your waist, legs apart, shoulders back, chest out, looking forward. Breathe slowly and deeply.  Take a slow, deep breath in, and let it out slowly.  Take another slow, deep breath in and let it out slowly.  Now, in your most confident voice say loudly:  I AM POWERFUL!      I AM POWERFUL!      I AM POWERFUL!

Remember that when you are in a stuck state of being sad, frustrated and/or depressed, you can’t be resourceful.  Take a power stance.  Also breathe, meditate, pray, take a walk, write down your gratitude, rewrite your script. You will begin to experience some powerful changes.

GIVING YOURSELF PERMISSION TO HAVE MORE FUN

Do you make time to be playful and have fun?

Being playful is easy when we are children, but as we become adults, and go through difficult challenges in our lives, a serious side takes over. Some of us have had difficult, challenging childhoods, while others had wonderful and delightful childhoods. But today, it really doesn’t matter.  Playfulness brings joy, and what better feeling can we bring today than joy within ourselves!

I can’t say that my childhood was an easy one. My parents didn’t get along and unfortunately, things were not light-hearted in my young world. But fortunately, I married someone who is very playful… and that was one of the things that drew me to him. He is a great “fun” role model, and being playful is one of the wonderful things he has taught me.

Here is a portion of a short article, “Playfulness Brings Joy,” written by Madyson Taylor, founder of the Daily OM website:

“When we approach our lives with a spirit of fun and liveliness, our interactions provide us with a satisfying sense of pleasure. Even though it may seem that joking around or playing is not a mature way to be, when we do this, we are aligning ourselves much more closely with our true spirit. This type of energy allows us to be much more aware of each moment and content with how we spend our time with others. Letting yourself play, joke, and laugh unabashedly will fill today with happiness and wonder.”

Bela Life Coaching Can Help You Learn to Have More Fun

Research shows that being playful is a key way to get more out of life. Even though we are busy with everyday responsibilities and schedules, it’s important to make time for play and leisure.

Here are 10 examples I’ve shared with clients for having fun and being playful:

  1. Sing and dance just for the fun of it.
  2. Spend time with the children in your life, observing them as they play, listening to their conversation, and following their train of thought.
  3. Cultivate a happy, joyful, positive attitude, full of gratitude for even the smallest, everyday things.
  4. Plan to make play part of your day, whether it is indoor or outdoor, solo or social, active or quiet.
  5. Try face & finger painting.
  6. Try lip-synching. Turn off the sound on your TV and make up the dialogues yourself.
  7. Watch funny movies.
  8. Watch the moon and stars come out. Say “aaaaaaa” and “oooooo” a lot.
  9. Wear two different colored shoes or socks (dare to be different).
  10. Adopt a pet.

Now it’s your turn. Take out a journal or piece of paper and write about the things you like to do to be playful and have fun… or, write about the things you would like to do to be playful and have fun. Don’t overthink it.

Learning to Love Yourself

From all of my life experiences and from the people that I’ve worked with individually, in workshops and in my Be Inspired Women’s Circles, I find that the only thing that truly heals our problems is to know how to love ourselves.

Louise Hay once said that when people learn how to love themselves more each day, it’s amazing how their lives get better in every way.  It’s a simple premise, and I totally agree.

When people start to love themselves more each day, it’s astounding how their lives get better. They feel better. They look better. They get the jobs they want. They have the money they need. Their relationships either improve, or the negative ones dissolve and new ones begin.

Are you willing to take a brief self-love challenge?  Here are six ways you can learn to love yourself each day:

  1. Be your own best friend.  What does that look like to you?
  2. See all of your magnificence and beauty–the pretty and not so pretty parts.
  3. Embrace the amazing and unique person you are.  There is only one you.
  4. Love all of yourself.  This means also accepting your weaknesses and challenges.
  5. Surround yourself with loving and positive people. No more toxic relationships.
  6. Give forgiveness to yourself and others. You will feel much lighter.

Are there other ways you can show love to yourself?

Reclaiming Your Mojo

Many of us are feeling anxious and depleted.   Anxious about our country struggling with crazy politics, a divided country, the war in Ukraine, covid still effecting us, economic crisis, violence, social and racial injustices, and more.  It is a lot to deal with. But one thing is certain: We have to learn to live together in love, peace and harmony.

And by feeling anxious, we often don’t feel like ourselves. Many of us feel like we’ve lost something. And some call this “Losing your mojo.”

What is mojo? It’s a word that is derived from African languages and relates to magic and spells to generate luck and power. Today, the word mojo still refers to a source of vigor, energy, sexual potency and power.

Have you ever lost your mojo? If you are feeling depleted, overwhelmed, overworked, stressed-out, tired, bored or lethargic,

You can begin to feel more energy and enthusiasm about yourself and all the world has to offer just by making some small life changes that will release the magic of your mojo.

I know what it’s like to lose mojo, but I’ve been able to reclaim it again and again: Living in a failed marriage, during a separation, as a single mom, financial crisis, being “laid off” from a job I needed but detested, losing my parents, recovering from a serious injury, surgeries.  The list goes on and on, but the good news is that I’ve always been able to reclaim my mojo.  And so can you!

Here are five action steps to help you reclaim your mojo when you feel that it’s lost:

  1. Address your stress and get unstuck.  If you feel overwhelmed or just stuck, you can lighten your load and be aware of what is causing you stress. Journaling is a great way to address the source of your stress. Write at least a paragraph on how you’d like your life to change, and believe it – and your mojo will show up.
  2. Stay away from negativity. If you are serious about getting back on track you have to stay away from negativity. This includes toxic and negative people and negative talk.  Keeping a gratitude journal will do wonders for your attitude.
  3. Have fun. Recall the things you did when you were younger that gave you joy.  Grab a pen and paper and write down the fun things you did and circle the things that you’d like to do again.  And start doing them!
  4. Start with baby steps. It’s easy to be overwhelmed. But one small step can help restore your confidence. With one step at a time you can conquer the unconquerable.
  5. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. Sometimes the simple act of asking for help from a friend, coach or counselor can be the boost you need for getting your mojo back. Speaking to someone can help you remember that everyone needs help from time to time and that no one can do it alone.

Can you think of more ways to get your mojo back?
